Frequently Asked Questions

What is Studio Banjara?

Meher Malik, the founder of Banjara school of dance decided to create an official virtual platform for belly dance enthusiasts where quality content can be provided for dancers of all levels from the comfort of their own homes.

What format are these classes in?
The classes are split between two formats. Pre recorded & zoom recordings. You may use the filter on the left side menu to figure which courses fall in either category.
Please also note only certain format level courses are certified, the rest are purely experiential.
How does my teacher track my growth?
The certified courses will have a test at the end of the course to be able to certify. The completion of non-certification courses is not monitored.
What is the difference in all the category of classes?

Certified Intensives are the foundation course in Belly dance that are in the Banjara format, being taught successfully over 10 years, they are split over many levels and completion of each one successfully gives the student a chance to progress into the next level. All assignments are to be taken seriously in order to be certified.

Open Level classes are conceptual classes in different subjects ranging from technique, to choreography, to improvisation. There usually is a recommended eligibility criteria but dancers are welcome to try things out of their comfort zone. Dancers of all levels can opt for these classes but a one time training in the Banjara certified beginners course will definitely give the students an upper hand.

Short sessions are open to one and all. These are shorter videos focusing on techniques, combinations, musicality, patterns, ideas and exercises. You can create a mixed bag of these videos and you’ll have so much content to play with.

Movement Medicine is for ANYBODY. You don’t need to be interested in belly dance at all to take up these classes. In these classes movement is used as a healing modality to help recover from stress, anxiety, trauma and to lead you on discovery of the inner self. It is recommended for dancers and non dancers alike to be able to address negative emotional, mental and physical body patterns.

How long do I have access to class content?

Once a course is bought you have unlimited access (barring technical updates, website changes and as long as studio banjara stands as a business)

What are these guidelines?

Please do not share video recordings of the courses on social media. They are for personal use only.
